3 Mommy/Daughter Dates That You Can Enjoy While Sheltering at Home

Like most households, this time during quarantine has presented logistical challenges for parents. Perry and I are doing what we can to make our work schedules fit around the kids’ needs. Winter has not attended pre-school since the beginning of March, so twice a week, I use Lennon’s naptime to have a pre-planned Mommy/Daughter date to be able to spend quality time with her. Below are the three go-to’s she always asks for.

3 Mommy/Daughter Dates That You Can Enjoy While Sheltering at Home

1). Tea Time: Like most kids her age, Winter is into pretend play and loves to get all dressed up and have tea with her imaginary friends. She puts on her little white gloves, my mother’s old costume jewelry from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and invites her toys to attend. Lately she has been enjoying inviting these darling figurines from the Peppa Surprise Balloons set. If your little ones aren’t aware of Peppa, she is the star of this darling British preschool animated television series called Peppa Pig. These Peppa Pig support kids’ social & emotional development which as a school psychologist, I love. At the bottom of the post, I did an overview of what Peppa toys from Jazwares we have and love.

2). Reading in an inside fort: This has been so great to do during quiet time. We choose between her teepee, a large cardboard box that we turned into a cute playhouse, or a blanket fort set up with chairs. We bring pillows, crayons, and books, and enjoy each other while reading or coloring. Sometimes we even make popcorn as a special afternoon snack.

3). Baking: Winter loves to bake, so sometimes we pick a recipe from my mother’s old recipe book and bake away. Watching Winter’s sweet hands as she mixes and measures is my favorite, and the way she lights up once the timer of the oven goes off makes my whole day.

While this time is stressful for us, it has also offered us opportunities for connection. Let me know what you like to do with your kids while you are sheltering at home in the comments below and be sure to check out the Peppa toys I featured here:

  1. Whistle ‘n Oink: Winter loves that when you squeeze Peppa’s belly she whistles, oinks, and talks. Peppa’s little cheeks light up, and Winter is now bound and determined to learn to whistle.

  2. Carnival Fun Playtime Set: This figure set features the two most popular characters from Peppa Pig, Peppa and George!

  3. Lights & Sounds Family Fun Car: Winter takes this car everywhere and loves to share it with her little brother. You can set four Peppa figurines in the car, then watch it go. It has working headlights, and plays music and phrases from the show.

  4. Surprise Balloons: This is how Winter loves to collect Peppa Pig characters. Each set comes with these play figurine balloons with a surprise character inside. She loves to use the balloons as bath toys too.

This post was sponsored by Jazwares. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

P.S. Winter took that picture of me and said “Wow, Mommy. You look beautiful!” I love it even thought it’s blurry. :)
